Students will receive Everyday Math homework almost every night
The homework is called Homelinks and they correspond with the lesson taught that day to help reinforce and extend the lesson. It should not take more than 15 minutes to complete.
Sight words are always in the back of the red Take Home Folder for your child to practice
Students will receive a guided reading envelope with a book to read and discuss at least 3-5 times a week depending on instructional times.
Other homework that may be sent home would be to reinforce a troubling concept or to complete something not finished in class.
I DO recognize those students who complete homework on a daily basis and check it regularly to gauge the students understanding of specific skills.
The student's homework responsibilities: I expect students to do their best on their homework and that all assignments will be turned in on time. The teacher's homework responsibilities: I will check all homework to see that it is complete. I will also recognize students when they do all of their homework at the end of each month.
The parent's homework responsibilities: Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children.
Agree on a time for your child to do the homework.
Sit with your child, and ask him/her what he/she thinks he/she is supposed to do. If your child is not sure, say, "Let's read the directions together."
Once your child understands the directions, let him/her know that you'll stay nearby to answer questions.
Check his work over once he/she is finished. If you notice a mistake, don't just give them the correct answer. Put a check near the problem, and encourage your child to try it again. If he/she still gets it wrong, work it out with them, not for them.
When the homework is done, tell your child to put it in their backpack right away.
